No limits: Conquering the Ironman Challenge

Weydon School are very grateful to Dr Ed Wernick who took time out of his busy schedule to talk to the Year 10 GCSE PE cohort about the Ironman event he completed before Christmas. In his presentation Ed covered a number of relevant topics including aspects of training, nutrition, and goal setting, but more importantly opened the students’ eyes to the realms of what is possible with a bit of planning and determination. There was plenty of inspiration for the students and staff attending, both from Ed’s personal endeavours but also with some videos and stories of other individuals achieving amazing things.

Head of Physical Education Lucy Harper said “That was a fantastic morning. The students took so much out of Ed’s talk, not just to help them with their GCSE Physical Education course, but with inspiring them to think about what they could personally achieve themselves in the future. I had so many questions I wanted to ask but the time just flew by”.

Alex, a Year 10 student was also impressed with the session. “Ed’s achievements are incredible. I had no idea how much planning and training go into completing a big endurance challenge like that. I want to take on some sort of challenge like this in the next few years to push me out of my comfort zone. It was so interesting”.
