Year 7 Intake September 2025
We appreciate that parents are rightly concerned that they choose the best secondary school for their child, especially when they have needs additional to those of their peers. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to meet with every parent on an 1-1 basis unless their child has an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP).
The needs of the majority of our neurodiverse students are met at our WAVE1 provision (Quality First Inclusive Universal Practice) which is provided in the classroom by our highly qualified and experienced teaching staff. The advice provided by the student’s primary school & any external agencies is communicated to staff via our Student-Teacher Plans and staff are provided with opportunities for training in SEND via CPD and INSET days.
Occasionally students may need short-term targeted interventions (usually 6 weeks in duration); these could include literacy & / or numeracy support, ELSA, keyboard skills, social skills, Zones of Regulation, etc. and the majority of these take place in the Student Support Centre during registration with one of our Progress Coaches so that students do not miss out on any lessons. Students are identified for these interventions through discussion with the Primary SENDCo & Yr6 teacher on transition, their teachers at Weydon, their parents and through the baseline assessments (CAT4 and Lucid), which are undertaken by the whole Year 7 cohort in the Autumn term of that year.
For more information, please see the SEND pages of our website which contain our SEND Policy, SEND-14 Information Report and SEND Provision Map.
The Weydon website also provides a complete picture of our school and the provision available to all Weydon students, including videos from our Principal and Senior Students, Curriculum videos, future dates for visiting the school in action (parents only) and our school prospectus which contains information on our curriculum and the extra-curricular activities we provide.
Once places have been accepted, we will start our comprehensive transition programme. We have strong links with our feeder schools and work together aiming for a smooth transition for all students. Please be assured that if your child is not coming from a feeder school, we will follow the same process.
Over the summer term we will have many planned opportunities to get to know our new SEND students and plan for their needs. This will include:
- Key Stage Director, SENDCO and Specialist Progress Coaches for Transition visiting schools
- Meetings with primary school SENDCOs to share information and complete Transition Passport
- Specialist Progress Coaches for Transition observing students in class and small group work with identified students
- Identifying where any additional or bespoke sessions for transition may be required
- Weydon SENDCo attending Y6 EHCP annual reviews
- External agencies visiting Weydon to offer support and guidance for our new SEND students
The Learning Support team is also an integral part of the Y6 transition days at Weydon in July. If your child requires additional support on this day, this will be passed to us by the primary school.
We hope this reassures you and your child that support will be in place for them.
