The wide-reaching impact of Weydon school volunteers
Weydon school volunteers have spent the last year setting up an online 2nd hand uniform shop. As well as avoiding landfill, the shop also provides affordable uniform for families. This recycling initiative has already raised over £6000, with funds contributing to the ‘above and beyond’ offering of Weydon.
The benefit doesn’t end here though – any obsolete or slightly damaged uniform is taken out to contacts at schools in South Africa and Tanzania where children proudly wear the uniform to their school.
Badly damaged items are ‘de-badged’ and donated to local hospice Phyllis Tuckwell for them to sell on as rags, one of their fundraising initiatives.
Principal Jackie Sharman commented “This is a wonderful example of a successful project made possible by the time, thought and care of others. I am extremely grateful to the team of volunteers and delighted by the wide-reaching implications of the scheme”.
