More silverware for Weydon girls as U16s crowned District Champions
Weydon U16 Girls were crowned Aldershot & Farnborough District Schools Cup Champions after defeating Robert Mays from Odiham 1-0 in the final.
An early goal from captain Jodie McCulloch was enough to seal victory in a close match played in wet conditions at the EBB stadium. The girls were unfortunate not to be further ahead at half time but had to show their character and resilience to defend well in the second half to keep hold of their lead. The girls, some in their last appearance in a Weydon shirt, covered every blade of grass and fought hard on the pitch to see it through to the end. After a fantastic season which saw them lose out in the County finals a few weeks previously, the girls fully deserved their winner’s medals.
Coach Jack Craven said “It has been an absolute pleasure to coach the girls for the last 4 seasons and they have become a really close-knit group. All of the girls have developed not only as players, but as young people in this time and I am sure some of these friendships will last for life. The football they have played this season has, at times, been sensational and to top it off with some silverware really is the icing on the cake.”
