Year 7 Intake September 2024

We look forward to welcoming your child to our school community.  Now that places have been accepted, we will be starting our comprehensive transition programme.  We have strong links with our feeder schools and work together aiming for a smooth transition for all students.  Please be assured that if your child is not coming from a feeder school, we will follow the same process.

Over the summer term we have many planned opportunities to get to know our new SEND students and plan for their needs.  This will include:

  • Key Stage Director, SENDCO and Specialist LSAs for Transition visiting schools
  • Meetings with primary school SENDCOs to share information and complete Transition Passport
  • Specialist LSAs for Transition observing students in class and small group work with identified students
  • Identifying where any additional or bespoke sessions for transition may be required
  • Weydon SENDCo attending Y6 EHCP annual reviews
  • External agencies visiting Weydon to offer support and guidance for our new SEND students

The Learning Support team is also an integral part of the Y6 transition days at Weydon on 2nd and 3rd July.  If your child requires additional support on this day, this will be passed to us by the primary school.

We recognise the move from primary to secondary is a big one for any child, as well as many parents. There will be an opportunity to meet with the SENDCo at the Y6 parent and student Welcome Evening in May.  Unless your child has an EHCP, please be aware that we cannot offer individual meetings or calls to every family.

The information gathered from primary school, the Transition Passport as well as our observations will be used to write a Student Support Plan for your child ready for when they join us in September.  Equally we recognise that the secondary environment contrasts greatly to primary, so if it is evident that adjustments need to be made to a student's plan after transition, these will be amended.
