A wet and windy blue Monday was brightened by a visit from student ambassador for British Airways, Riz Jaffri, who talked to all of the Year 10 students about careers within this global organisation.

He began by entertaining the students with stories about his own work experience in engineering at Heathrow. He was keen to stress that BA is an equal opportunities employer and that there are careers within the organisation to suit everyone.  Not only that, but there are many different ways of gaining qualifications and skills without accumulating a student debt!  Of particular interest to many of the students was the wide range of apprenticeships available at BA at all levels including degree level apprenticeships.

An interactive quiz was hugely informative.  The students learnt about the size of the organisation, the partnerships with other global airlines and all about the many jobs that are available in Head Office as well as the more obvious ones.  The students even learnt that a Club World seat is so sophisticated that it costs around £60,000 to design and make.

Careers Co-ordinator, Ali Molan, said, “the experience has been very useful for our students.  It has opened their eyes to the many and varied opportunities an organisation like British Airways can offer.  It was particularly interesting to hear about the work experience opportunities which many of our students will pursue. We are hugely grateful for British Airways for supporting our students in this way.”

Riz was amazed at the facilities the students enjoy at Weydon School and commented on how impressive our students were.  He praised them for being so respectful and was full of admiration for them and is eager to return on 21st February for the Careers Evening.
