Weydon School Students Visit the Big Apple

After a tricky start with their flight being cancelled, some Weydon School students visited New York recently.

Students following GCSE courses in Drama, Art and Textiles enjoyed a four day trip to the Big Apple.

They visited the Rockefeller Centre and visited shops on 34th Street. At the end of the first day the students experienced dinner at Ellens Stardust Diner where Broadway actors sang to the students whilst they ate.

A highlight of the trip was travelling by ferry to view the Statue of Liberty. This was followed by a very reflective afternoon visiting the 9/11 memorial and museum.

On their last day, the Drama students attended a workshop with the actor who played Olaf in the musical Frozen which they saw on Broadway the night before. Textile students had a tour of the garment district from a fashion designer and Art students visited the MOMA gallery.

Mrs Charlotte Padley, Organiser of the trip and the Textiles Teacher commented: “We were so proud of the students throughout the whole trip. We had such a rocky start with our flight being cancelled and having to travel to New York via Boston but the students showed resilience and patience. Once we got there the trip was amazing with the students enjoying the sights and sounds of New York City.”
