Weydon School Students Enjoy A Dance Workshop
Weydon School Year 11 Dance students were thrilled to take part in a Dance Workshop headed up by contemporary dance practitioner and professional performer, Lee Smikle.
Lee trained at the prestigious Rambert Dance School and secured a place at the famous Mathew Bourne Dance Company touring both nationally and internationally for ten years. Lee now lives in Brighton heading Smikle Project after moving down from London where he worked with the Centre for Advanced training students at Laban conservatoire and Shoreditch Youth Dance Company.
The workshop was designed to broaden the Year 11 GCSE Dance student’s creative approaches to tasks and set phrases in support of their choreography assessment. The students gained a great deal from the workshop, pushing their movement boundaries and habitual choices resulting in them generating new and abstract responses to tasks.
The workshop further allowed students to appreciate how there is no ‘correct’ way of approaching tasks and generating movement which led them to take risks feeling liberated and building a sense of creative curiosity.
Dance Teacher, Ms Gill commented; “We are so grateful to Lee for the time he spent with our GCSE students. The workshop was full of energy and the students were captivated with Lee’s ideas. The workshop was a great help for the students preparation towards their forthcoming GCSE.”
